LPS appraisal service

NEW! The Lithuania Philatelic Society is now offering stamp collection valuation and appraisal service. A FREE evaluation service makes it easy for non-collectors to learn the true value of their Lithuanian stamps. There is a fee for requesting a formal written appraisal. A formal appraisal may not be needed unless required for legal purposes. Any profits potentially generated by the LPS Appraisal Service will be used by the society to promote its purpose, deliver more events and services to its members. We welcome your comments and suggestions on how to better improve the services.

What is the Collection Worth

There are many things you can do with a stamp collection, but the very first thing you must decide is whether you want to keep it, donate it or sell it and this often depends on its value.

Assessing the value can be difficult, is inherently subjective, and relies on a number of variables like condition, rarity and market forces (supply and demand).

There are several different ways to get an estimate of the value of your collection:

  1. If you have inherited the collection – look for the notes or instructions from the owner, an insurance policy, or an inventory list.
  2. Take the collection to a local stamp dealer/show and ask them what they would pay.
  3. Look up the prices of the stamps. You will need to acquire a copy of Scott’s or Michel’s stamp catalog (many local libraries carry Scott’s stamp catalogs).
  4. Seek out advanced collectors with a specialized knowledge.

We can help

We can quickly evaluate your stamp collection to see if it is worth having it appraised or expertized. There is no charge for evaluation. Evaluation shall not be used as a legal appraisal reference.

To submit your items for evaluation, appraisal or certification please fill out the online submission form.
