Just accessed your e-mail and went to bid for the 1922 De Jure essay error, but I was too late, the sale had ended. It is almost impossible to purchase here in Australia anything like the error item in any of the Baltic States and the time difference does not help also.
    There is always tomorrow!

    Dear Maria,
Thanks for visiting our website and posting your comment. Ebay sellers are often unpredictable and may end a listing early in order to relist item later when demand is higher or sell the item off-eBay. It is sort of funny because the seller is also from Australia.

The auction was cancelled after I informed the seller of the invert (who I know well) that his stamp is highly likely to be a forgery. I could not tell with 100% certainty as the scan was of rather limited resolution but I have similar fakes, including double overprint in my forgery collection. The characteristic feature of the forgery is rather crude facial features in the portrait and brighter red ink color. I am 95% convinced this is a forgery. Glad you did not throw money away.

    Maria,

Girius had re-listed the stamp on eBay BUT please read his description!
By the way Girius lives in Australia as well 🙂

    Best regards,

    Vitaly

The cover sent from Heydekrug is a fake since there was no postat office “2” in Heydekrug. Sincerely Dr.U.E. Klein, Germany

    Dr. Klein,

Many thanks for reporting this cover as being a fake. I have updated this page and also added this cover to the “fakes and forgeries” section http://lithuanianphilately.com/forgeries/exposed.html

    Best wishes, Audrius
