Local Issues

Term “local post” (or “local issue”) is used to describe mail in a local post or a postal service that operated only within a limited geographical area, typically a city or a single transportation route. Local issue stamps issued in the Lithuanian territory between 1919 and 1920 were printed in cities of Raseiniai, Telsiai and Grodno. While the Telsiai and the Grodno local issue stamps were used for postal services for only short periods, no evidence exists suggesting that the Raseiniai local issue stamps ever used for any postal service. Some of local issue stamps are among the great rarities of Lithuania philately listed in major catalogs.
