Name: “POSTAL CARS - EUROPA SERIES”
Issue date: 2013 04 25
643 2.45 Lt – Postal car - Tazzari Zero
644 7.45 Lt – Postal car - Moskvich 401
Design: M. Gribauskas. Offset. Art paper. Stamp size: 36 x 30 mm.
Edition: 80,000 each stamps. Printed by “Garsų pasaulis“ printing house in Lithuania (Vilnius).
Along with the postage stamp, the first day cover and first day sheet were also issued.
In addition, Lithuanian Post has issued a limited edition postage stamp booklet. This booklet was issued in small numbers (ca 3000) in a quiet and rather unusual manner: it was never mentioned on the official Lithuanian Post website nor listed in the official stamp program. Moreover, only few booklets were offered for public sale: retail counters of Central Post Offices in Vilnius and Kaunas received only 115 and 48 booklets, respectively. All the remaining issue fell into hands of some private individuals having connections to people inside the postal administration.
By all indications, it is a speculative issue.
This created outrage in a philatelic community which felt betrayed to private interests of some employees of the Lithuanian Post.
