In Lithuania the Shrove Tuesday is called Užgavėnės. People eat pancakes (blynai) and Lithuanian-style doughnuts called spurgos. The festival is a celebration of the imminent end of the winter. It is beyond doubt that it was originally a pagan festival, lately closely associated with Christianity which has become popular celebration across Europe and other countries.
