Description:
The most reliable source of information about residents and their housing is the Population and Housing Census. The Population and Housing Census conducted in 2001 was the first and the only Census of Lithuania after the restoration of independence. About 15 thousand workers, 82 percent of which were females, contributed to a smooth Census work. The results of the Census showed that in 2001 there were 3484 thousand residents in Lithuania, with 46,8 percent of males and 53,2 percent of females.
The Population and Housing Census starting on 1 March 2011 and ending in May of the same year will provide with reliable demographic and qualitative characteristics of the population of Lithuania.
The 2011 Censuses will be carried out both in Lithuania and all member countries of the European Union.
