Stanley Gibbons aims for eBay’s market

Stanley Gibbons today bought an American auction website that sells collectable stamps, postcards, coins and comics in a deal worth $1 million (£806,000) as part of its attempt to beef up its online business.

Gibbons, whose flagship shop is on the Strand, will pay $600,000 in cash for Stampwants.com, which trades as bidStart.com, and issue 20,035 new ordinary shares to the minority shareholders when the deal closes. BidStart had revenues of £300,000 last year.

I've never used Stampwants. Does anyone have any feedback? Can we assume that the number of forgeries is significantly less the ebay?

I guess it depends on how they would attract European sellers after all. If it can manage to grow to the Delcampe level, I think it would be nice even though it can't possibly match Ebay.
