First Postage Stamps of Lithuania

The first Lithuanian postage stamps were issued in December 1918. The first set of 10 and 15 skatikas stamps of “Lietuvos pašta” within a rectangle. The first edition was limited to 5000 sets (Mi 1-2).

A larger second edition of six stamps (Mi 3-8) was printed December 31, 1918.

Provisional Manuscript Cancels

These early manuscript markings are very rare. Postmasters used pen cancellations because they did not have standard hand stamps. These manuscript cancels were used until the introduction of the Lithuanian standard postmarks.
